Who are we?
A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY
Our grandfather, José Mesa, started making wine in the village of Arafo in the south of Tenerife more than 70 years ago.
At that time, wine was taken to Santa Cruz de Tenerife in carts pulled by donkeys, to be exchanged for other essential goods.
It was the post-war era and nothing was easy in those days.
Our father, Tomás Guzmán Mesa, continued with the winery, but as a hobby, times had changed. Gradually he became more and more animated, the old barrels gave way to stainless steel and he began bottling wine under the name Viñas Mesa.
WE TAKE OVER
Our vineyards also underwent great changes, the trellis was introduced as a cultivation system, much more friendly for harvesting, but also maintaining the traditional low vineyards of the Güímar Valley.
The varieties have also changed, today we still keep the old Listán, both white and red, and the Muscat of Alexandria. But we have given way to others, such as Marmajuelo, Albillo Criollo and Verijadiedo white and red.
We have also included other farms that once belonged to my other grandfather, Fernando Guanche, also a farmer, and leased others that we are planting with local varieties that were practically extinct.
